Mercure Thame - Lambert Hotel

London Rd, Aston Rowant, Watlington OX49 5SQ, UK – 01844 351496

Clean and tidy, and good value. Food good. Thought the restaurant menu a little limited, but ate in the bar on my last night, and that was fine. Bedroom fine. Issue with bathroom in that the shower screen was letting water by, flooding the floor. Informed reception of the issue.

Nice hotel. Better than your average. Nice clean spacious rooms. WiFi is poor throughout the hotel. The staff are great are try to be helpful, however because 95% of the staff are not from the UK you do have a language barrier. If you want to order anything out of the ordinary or make changes to anything it can be difficult and frustrating.

The Peacock Country Inn

Henton, Chinnor, Thame OX39 4AH, UK – 01844 353519

Just had another absolutely delicious Sunday Roast at The Peacock. Always top notch freshly cooked food served quickly by lovely staff. Also our favourite place to stay when we want a night or two away from busy and hectic home life.

Comfortable room, always a great breakfast and friendly reception when I arrive. Thank you

We popped in for a quick bite and we're impressed by the service received There is a strong South African ambience but it's not overpowering. Would definitely stop there again

Had a lovely meal here with my husband, the ribs were amazing and the fresh stone baked pizza was delicious, great food and fantastic service.

The Shepherds Crook

The Crown Inn

Sydenham Road, Sydenham OX39 4NB, UK – 01844 351634

Great real ale, all beer in perfect condition, landlord is very friendly, a great pub. (Pub has since changed hands since my review).

Excellent food. Roast was like home cooked. Very quaint, just wished we lived near it.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Manor Farm Cottage B&B

Henton, Chinnor OX39 4AE, UK – 01844 353301

Delightful English cottage with history and character. Homely and welcoming with all facilities (wifi, tv, ensuite, tea-making) and lovely homecooked breakfast. Set in peaceful village setting with good access to Chiltern Hills and South Oxfordshire. Jean is a wonderful host. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely place to stay with excellent hospitality. Jean and Trevor made us feel very welcome and even though we were there early, was not a problem at all. Bedrooms were very comfortable and clean with a nice bathroom with a great power shower. After getting up and feeling fresh, we were provided with an excellent hot breakfast basically whenever we wanted it. All in all a wonderful stay, and very highly recommended for anyone who wants to switch off from the outside world. Thank you so much Jean and Trevor, and we will be back.

The Courtyard at Wainhill

Thatched Cottage, Wainhill, Chinnor OX39 4AB, UK – 01844 352864

We stayed here whilst working away, and it was the perfect retreat after a busy day. Katrina was so welcoming and accommodating when we needed to arrive a little earlier than expected. The wifi is very quick, beds super comfy and the breakfast was fantastic. We would definitely recommend. Thank you again.

Nice place. Great hosts. Lovely breakfast.

The Inn at Emmington

Sydenham, Chinnor OX39 4LD, UK – 01844 351367

Popped in to stay the night. Arrived early but our room was ready. Spent afternoon getting tipsy and had a lovely curry..so friendly here

The Inn at Emmington We stayed at this establishment as a base whilst visiting family in the area. Our first impressions were that it must be very busy based on the full adjacent car park. On checking-in in the bar area, we were advised that the pub/restaurant had a large late Xmas dinner booking that evening which accounted for the volume of car parking. We were offered to make arrangements with staff for food, but we had other plans. Our room was on ground floor of the adjoining but separate accomodation block. To the rear, there is a spacious well tended beer garden. The accomodation is not the most chic or contemporary in styling, but is spacious, modern, & clean. The provision of sofa in room was welcome bonus. Our bed provided a good night's sleep, bathroom facilities & towels were satisfactory. Decor could be freshened up a little, however attention to detail is noted in the provision of extra pillows/linen/travel cot etc, and current tourist information & small bookshelf of novels in accomodation reception area. We slept soundly & not disturbed by patrons of pub. Seeing the Inn for first time in daylight at breakfast was fascinating. Many establishment s adopt a rustic theme, this place doesn't need to,. .. It's the real thing. Authentic Old English pub in beautiful rural countryside. Our breakfast was wonderful, & freshly cooked local produce. I have no hesitation in recommending the Inn at Emmington, & would certainly return. Lovely staff & good value for money.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
